A gorgeous 1930s Detroit Vapor stove on eBay - Omaha, NE

My stove's very close relative is for sale on eBay, located in Omaha. Look at this beauty!

The enamel's in wonderful shape, and what's really remarkable, all the front knobs are still there! I don't see the oven temperature control dial on the right side. Maybe that's one of the things sitting inside the oven. That might be an interesting repair to have to make. Other than that, though, this is a wonderful stove. I wrote to the seller to correct the date; it's 1933-1934, not 1920s.

111 Vintage Dress Patterns = Maria Hit the Jackpot

I stopped by a church rummage sale Saturday morning. They're the best. The greatest stuff, the best prices AND they want to clear out everything, so are usually making deals right and left.

When I arrived, everything was already half the marked price.

I picked up two big boxes of old dressmaker patterns for one dollar (they were originally a dollar a box). I grabbed them so fast and rushed them out to the car before anyone could snatch them out of my greedy paws. I did not even look through them till I got home.

Here they are. Try not to faint. Again, these were a DOLLAR. FOR ALL OF THEM.

And the rest, since Photobucket has a limit of 100 images per slideshow:

I'm going to put them all on eBay without pulling any. It was enough to get to look through them all, and I really need the money. This lot was a Godsend, for sure.

eBay Store Levels Calculator

And on a related note: If you're considering an upgraded eBay store, here's a calculator for you, to see where the break-even points are on the various Stores levels - Basic, Premium and the rarified air of an Anchor store. Again, these are just for the insertion fees. Final Value Fees are a whole other ballgame.

eBay Store or no eBay Store?

I go back and forth on having an eBay Store. I open one, have it for a few months, get sick of it, and close it, then a few months later I open it up again. For anyone who is interested, this is a little chart showing the cost comparison for insertion fees for basic level Store versus just listing Good till Canceled listings without a store at all. The final value fees are the same.

As you can see, unless you have 55 or more listings at all times, you are better off to just list Good till Canceled listings without a Store. Beyond that, you start to save money with a Store. Added advantages to having a Store are the fact that you get 12 photos with each listing at no extra charge, which can be nice; and the big advantage of being able to put your Store in vacation mode any time you need a break, so sales cannot go through while you are unable to fill orders. One more advantage is the ability to run special sales in your Store, for dollars off, percentage off, free shipping, et cetera.

At present I don't have enough stuff listed to make it worthwhile, but I should list more anyway. I may reopen here one of these days.

Anybody near Kansas City need an authentic Craftsman era davenport?

I've been watching this one for a good while now, from the first time he listed, through this relist which is about over. It would date to right around 1918. I have two of these in my living room: Kroehler KoDav loveseats that fold out to a 3/4 sized bed. I wish I could have this one, too. Dunno where I'd put it, but I could be a KoDav hoarder so easy. And for $99! Whew!

The oilcloth is original and not really in terrible shape, considering. My Kroehlers have that underneath their more recent upholstery jobs, too, and they were in much worse shape. If you can't live with it and you can't find brown oilcloth to replace it with, go with leather. I did that for one of mine. I bought a full hide on eBay for around $75 and just cut it to size and stapled it over the existing upholstery and it looks nice. The other was recovered somewhere along the line with red marbled Naugahyde and Barry likes it so we're keeping it, at least for awhile.

Anyway, if you can snag this one, do so. If you do, let me know and I'll tell you what I did for a replacement mattress.

Anybody recognize these two little guys?

It's a cabinet photo of two little boys in a parlor, taken by Seely of New Albin. It's on eBay right now. (Not my listing.) Their descendants are probably around here somewhere and would love to know about this picture. I think I'll post it on the bank bulletin board, too.

Sorry for the bad reproduction of the photo; the auction shows that it's actually much brighter and clearer. I couldn't figure out how to snag the image off eBay so I printed it and scanned the printout. Terrible.

Saturday's Apron: A Dressy Floral Apron

This was a Way Station find: A homemade chiffon apron with pansy motifs added, possibly from an old tablecloth. It's very cute, but I don't wear these (I need something more substantial for my messes). Not sure yet if I'll put it in Lulu's or not; it has some issues, and I like to list things are perfect.

The Capehart is on eBay

I put the Capehart Panamuse on eBay last night. I hate to do it, but we cannot afford to restore it, and I want SOMEONE to.

"My Double" wire dress form on eBay, ends today

In case you are interested in acquiring a vintage wire My Double dress form like mine, there's one on eBay right now, ending later today. The seller did not know what it was until I spoiled the sleeper and told him/her.

Guess you can't pick up a photo from an eBay auction anymore! Grrr.

Annual Event

I'm a Powerseller again, though it won't last. I cannot sustain the sales levels through the summer. But it's fun once a year to be a Powerseller!

Saturday's Apron: Lotsa Fruit!

I made this little apron out of two different bolt ends, the cherries and the lemons, from my favorite quilt shop, Yellow Bird Art in Lansing, Iowa.

They have this wonderful barrel full of scraps and bits and you can get all that you can cram into a little baggie for $4.75. And with a little effort and careful folding, i can cram a LOT of pretties into that baggie!

The red and white is one of the Zoomin by Clothworks line. I love that fabric. It's so hard to find a true red and a true white.

I love those pockets! I found that pattern here. They're a little tedious but they come out so cute with a contrast lining.

It's reversible, sort of, with a lining but no pockets on the inside.

This baby is on eBay this week. I have never tried to sell one of my own homemade aprons before, just vintage ones from estate sales. I'm anxiously watching to see how it goes.

Linoleum Carpet Finds a New Home

It wasn't easy, but I sold the linoleum carpet that has covered our bedroom floor since 1947.

It's going to be installed in a museum, the Carlisle House in Carlisle, Iowa! The vintage isn't exactly right, but they did find some similar lino in the house before the restoration began, so they think it will work in an office on the second floor, once a bedroom.

While I'm sad to see it leave, I'm so happy with where it is headed.

Yet another reason why New Albin is the best... nay, the ONLY town for me.

As most of you know, I completely lose my mind when I see something red and white. I must have it. I most possess it. It must become MINE. The family is well acquainted with this phenomenon and steers me carefully away from red or red and white things.

New Albin's team colors are red and white.

It's just meant to be that I should have come to live in New Albin!

This is on eBay right now. It's a Boy Scouts community patch for New Albin in, of course, red and white. It's so great! I am going to watch it but my fellow New Albin eBayers have already staked a claim, so I will probably not even bid, but ain't it cute?

Got one of these again:

Last time I had one, I held onto it for maybe 5 months, then lost it in the summer eBay doldrums. It's a tougher crowd out there these days, so I'm surprised I won it back. We'll see how long I keep it this time around.
