Gripe gripe gripe.

Everyone! Please! Attention!

When you write about homemade laundry soap, the kinds (there are many variations) based on a mixture of borax, washing soda and old-fashioned soap, please stop calling it "homemade laundry detergent." It's not detergent. Detergent is not a synonym for soap. Detergent is a petroleum byproduct that is great for breaking up stains, especially oily stains. None of those basic laundry soap ingredients contain detergents.

So please.... Homemade laundry soap. Soap. SOAP!

I step off my detergent box - I mean my soap box - now.

Not disagreeing .. but if you go to Costco .. check out the labeling on their Kirkland 'natural' type of dish soap .. and it mentions it's a plant based detergent .. not sure if this is truly the case as they are very vague about the ingredients.

I understand completely! I get so annoyed at misused words and things like then/than in magazines and newspapers! There is NO excuse for that by professionals. My grandson Ty is very very picky about this sort of thing. His aunt said it was snowing one day, and he looked out the window and said "That's not snow, that's sleet." He was right. He wasn't quite 3. He lives in England now (AF dad, and they chose to NOT live in base housing). DD now says "walk" but he quickly corrects her to "sidewalk."
