Seventeen years ago today...

... something interesting happened, but I'm having the hardest time remembering what it was.

Oh yeah, now I remember! My son Kieffer was born. He weighed 8 pounds 4 ounces. He was tall and thin. He had a lovely pair of lungs and was strong and healthy. He was then and is now very precious to us. Also he is still tall and thin.

In honor of Kieffer, I have a chocolate cake in the oven. It's an old recipe of my mother's and you can find it here.

Happy birthday Kieffer!

Hope you've enjoyed the chocolate cake.
I know I would have done.
I also hope you enjoy the sweet (is that right to say, when one talks to a boy?) seventeen, every minute of it.
"If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be a Man, my son!"

Happy Birthday, Kieffer! Don't suppose you remember the day you were small enough to sit crossed-legged in a box once used to hold envelopes. We passed a fun afternoon sliding you around the living room floor of your CA home in it. Still have a photo, somewhere.
